The auto industry is changing rapidly. Big brands come up with new concepts and new innovations every day that keep making cars a little bit better. While cars for daily use are becoming increasingly electric, many car enthusiasts often find classic cars a lot more interesting. It is therefore a challenge for the major car brands to develop a luxury cars that meet the needs of the enthusiast, but can also keep up with the “green future.” These developments make for a host of unusual sports cars. So in this blog you will read the what are the 5 most extraordinary sports cars of 2023.
5. Mercedes-AMG SL
The iconic SL is back in 2023 with an updated style but has remained traditional when you look at the mechanical part. One can choose between two variants at launch: the SL55 and the SL63. Both versions use a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. The SL55 variant produces 469 hp and the SL63 produces 577 hp. Both models will certainly not disappoint SL enthusiasts.
For the first time, the SL has a rear seat, although it is really little more than a place for luggage. Still, an average-sized adult could probably fit if the front passenger could sit comfortably. With the GT Coupe and the S-Class Convertible gone, Mercedes-Benz is targeting former customers of both models with the new SL, and Mercedes sees the new SL as a fusion of the two.
Despite a rear seat, the SL retains the style of a roadster and its proportions are much better than those of the sixth generation. Inside, the dashboard is almost identical to that of the full-size S-Class, and the quality is a lot better than that of previous models. Overall, Mercedes-Benz has done an excellent job proving that V8 toys can coexist with their electric counterparts. As for prices, the price of the SL 55 4MATIC+ is from 231,004 euros. And the price of the SL 63 4MATIC+ starts at 262,526 euros.
4. Chevrolet Corvette Z06
The sought-after Z06 logo will be seen again with the new 2023 Corvette, with performance to match. Although many Corvette fans still can’t really accept the mid-engine C8, the new Z06 will probably be better liked. The new Z06 has the most powerful V8 ever built, with 670 hp going to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. A 0-100 time of 2.6 seconds proves that the V8 is not yet ready to retire. The car’s performance is in line with many hybrid and electric sports cars that use the direct torque of electric motors to achieve such fast start times. Production for the Z06 will begin in a few months in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
3. Nissan Z
The “Z” designation has been widely used on Japanese sports cars since the introduction of the Nissan 240Z in 1969, and after a short break, Nissan has developed a new 2023 model. For the first time, the new two-seater sports coupe has no number designation. The coupe hooks into its “Datsun roots” with a streamlined design, a sloping roof and round headlights.
Under the hood you will find the highlight of the new coupe with a twin-turbo 400-hp V-6 that can also be found in the Infiniti Q60. A six-speed manual transmission is standard in the Nissan Z, to the relief of Nissan fans. A 7-speed automatic is also an option. With a target price of around $40,000 or €37,000, the all-new Nissan Z is a bargain when it comes to fast sports coupes. We look forward to learning more about its driving characteristics when it arrives.
2. Aston Martin V12 Vantage
While the entire Aston Martin lineup benefits from innovations, few models are as hyped as the limited edition V12 Vantage. As the name suggests, more has changed than just a fancy new body. For the first time since the previous generation, the famous Aston Martin 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 finds its way into Aston Martin’s smallest coupe. The Aston Martin V12 Vantage is quite “limited” with only 330 cars hitting the market and makes for an exclusive car.
The most recent new price without extras was €264,243. Therefore, these high amounts are not enough to deter Aston Martin fans, as orders for North America, at least, are already closing. While this will not be the last V12 engine to be placed in an Aston Martin, it will be the last in a Vantage. An electric successor to the current Vantage is expected in 2024.
1. Honda Civic Type R
The Honda Civic Type R returns in 2023 and is better equipped than ever before. Building on the 30-year history of this model, the Type R does really set the tone in terms of performance. With Nurburgring tuning and narrower bodywork, the new Type R is the highlight of the family. A 2.0-liter engine delivers power through an upgraded six-speed manual transmission to create a driving experience truly made to satisfy the car enthusiast.
Power is expected to increase by about 10 hp from the previous year. Meanwhile, the robust sport seats ensure that the front occupants stay in place while driving through sharp turns. Striking colors such as “Boost Blue” and “Rallye Red” ensure that the new Type R gets all the attention it deserves. The Honda Civic Type R is priced at €78,980, which, despite its cool features, is not cheap for a Civic.
